Full WoE Guide - Work in Progress

Post by Wild Wolf Joerger on Mon May 02, 2016 12:47 pm

    Hey everyone!

For the next couple of weeks I'll be updating this thread with some basics and helpful tips about the roles each class has during WoE. There is a LOT to be said, however, so this may take some time. I'll try to get it done before we start WoE'ing by doing 2-3 classes everyday or so. Note that what I have at first will be pretty basic but will eventually include builds and more ForsakenRO-specific tips and strategies. I will try to get the classes done to the best of my knowledge before talking about things like stacking and how to move as a group efficiently. For the time being, please speak with a Council member or anyone who plays whatever class you want to play to get some help with fine tuning your build.

WoE has been the single reason I have kept coming back to RO since 2004. I just love it. I have never been able to find a game that has a GvG system with as much complexity and intensity as Ragnarok's WoE. That being said I do know a fair amount that I'm more than happy to share but PLEASE POST ANY KIND OF CRITICISM YOU HAVE ON MY OPINIONS AS I CERTAINLY DON'T KNOW EVERYTHING WHEN IT COMES TO WOE.

    Assassin Cross
    Offense:
You are an Emperium breaker when we are in offensive situations. Your job is to do your best to rush past the defense and break the Emperium. While attempting a solo rush (ONLY for last minute breaking attempts), you basically just want to spam your speed potion hotkey and keep a finger hovering over Cloaking as well in case you’re getting hit stunned from long range single target skills (Bolts, Acid Demo, DS).

When you are not solo-breaking you will want to enter the Emperium room shortly after the tanking classes (e.g., Paladins and Lord Knights), which will make it much easier to sneak past the enemy defenses. If you are our guild’s dedicated breaker, you will definitely have your own paladin (and probably a back-up devo pally as well) since you will be receiving a majority of the damage. You will also have a Professor near you for Land Protector if the guild has a lot of casters. Your job here isn’t to kill anyone but rather to just get to the Emperium and break it- use your guild mates as shields!
    Defense:
Straight up kill attackers. You will not be able to tank very well and, if our devotion paladins are stretched thin, you will not be devo’d so you’ll be a pretty squishy target. Go for weaker, yet heavy damage-dealing targets like Professors and High Wizards and, of course, if you see another Assassin Cross you (and everyone else in the guild) will do your damnedest to take it down. Stick alongside the Lord Knights and coordinate with the designated target picker to take down one target at a time as efficiently as possible. You will want to have a different weapon for defense as you are attacking players instead of the Emperium- Thanatos cards or Ice Picks will be helpful since a lot of people in WoE are Thana-bait.

    Sniper
    Offense:
From what I can tell, the damage dealt by a full offense Sniper is comparable to Lord Knights. You probably will have a hard time killing better geared players on your own but if you are coordinating with the designated target picker then you will help us get the upper hand. Focused Arrow Strike has a complex shape, so you will want to position yourself correctly. With /noshift ON you will want to put yourself where you have an ally in a straight line OR diagonal between you and the enemy stack. You will then hold down shift and target your enemy to send your arrows flying in the right direction. FAS has a 13 cell range so you can stay out of the range of Dispel and Acid Bomb while still being able to hit the enemy front lines.
<--- The blue dot represents YOU, the red cells are the directions in which FAS can go. Visualization to help you position yourself.

The Sniper is also one of the best classes to inflict a ton of different status effects and strips on a wide area. If you are playing a disabler Sniper you will want to use Arrow Shower and just try to disturb the enemy’s organization. Arrow Shower has a 14-cell range and doesn’t require as careful positioning so you can stay out of danger even easier.
    Defense:
For pure defensive roles, you will want to stay with the ranged stack and put pressure on enemies with either FAS if you’re pure offense or with Arrow Shower if you are a disabler.

If you’re one of the designated trappers, you will put traps all over the place. Remember that lower level traps have a longer duration. The trap positions might change for however we decide to run our groups, but typically you start to trap right behind the front-line defenders that are next to the portal waiting for attackers. You will use Remove Trap/Arrow Shower to remove your traps every 1.5-2 minutes and then set them back up again to keep them fresh. As soon as attackers start breaking through our defenses you will start trapping back towards the Emperium to give our casters and ranged attackers more time to defend. YOU MUST STAY ALIVE OR ALL OF THE TRAPS WILL DISAPPEAR.
When you’re done trapping you will be helping the defense by using FAS or Arrow Shower on enemies depending on whether you are offensive or disabling and Charge Arrow if Pneuma comes up at all.

It may help to throw a max level Sandman trap or Land Mine in between some of your level 1 Ankle Snares to make sure enemies aren’t clearing out your traps too easily. Sandman is a 3x3 AoE based on INT and will slow down players who get hit by it significantly. This stacks with Please Don’t Forget Me and Quagmire, so it can be very useful for stopping breakers. Land Mine is also a 3x3 AoE but is based on STR. Its damage is comparable to a single Lord of Vermillion from a High Wizard but its real help comes from the hit stun you get, stopping enemies from clearing whole lines of traps.

    Paladin
    Offense:
You keep key members alive and provide nice buffs to your devotees. Our devotion team will need to be very focused during offensive approaches. Generally when we’re attacking you will focus on keeping our Emperium breakers, our designated land protector, and our Strings alive by spamming the hell out of Yggdrasil Seeds. Why seeds? Because you can carry 3-4x more seeds than you can Yggdrasil berries and not having to access your storage every few minutes is invaluable. Why these key members? Well, we need the designated land protector (will be discussed in the Prof section) and our string players (in the gypsy/clown section) alive for proper stacking and moving as a group (will be discussed heavily when I get to it xD). If these key players are already devo’d then you will devo our squishier players like profs (low HP) and snipers (since they can’t use GTB).

Keep out of dispel range when not using GTB as dispel will cancel all of your devotions and those who were linked to you will probably die. Stay within the range of devotion, especially when you’re covering a breaker, or else it will be lost. Keep your HP above 25% or else the devotion will be lost. You should never devo more than 3 players as it is nearly impossible to spam seeds that quickly. Stack on top of the squishier players when possible as your large sprite will make it more difficult for them to be singled out. When entering a room with precast (usually the entrance or the Emperium room) you and the LKs will charge in first, get past the precast, then be ready to cast devotion on your designated devotees the instant they enter the room to help them get past precast. Eddga cards are helpful for getting past precast if you’re having a problem with hit stun. Pressure is helpful to cast on enemy Profs sometimes (it's annoying as all hell), but they can always just use a Pharaoh card or simply eat a berry to gain their SP back.
    Defense:
Practically the same as offense, but the key members change as we are in precast defense situation and not in as difficult of a group movement situation. Keep devo up on our Professors since they’re normally a big target. Our trapper(s) may or may not need devotion to help them trap easier. It’s nice to devo a SinX so they can go straight to dual daggers and beat the tar out of someone. Really it depends on who needs it when so pay attention to your guild members!

Btw sorry I have let this kinda stagnate. I've been too busy to work on it all the time but will try to get it worked on today and tomorrow since I won't be able to be on the game then.
